How the 3 Squadron Association was First Formed...

On Anzac Day, 25 April 1946, a number of ex-3 Squadron men (from the early period of the Squadron's WW2 history) congregated after the march at the "Hotel Morris" (in Sydney) to drink, swap yarns and discuss old times.

The suggestion was then made that a re-union of ex-3 Squadron members should be held on 15 July, the date on which the Squadron embarked for the Middle East and forthwith a committee was elected: Bas Amm, Bill Maloney and Bill Madigan.  It was anticipated from the addresses available (all belonging to the early period of the Squadron's history) that only 30 would attend.

Then, as Bas puts it, a stroke of luck came their way when Bill Andrews, contacting him after noticing the re-union advertisement, advised that he had quite a large roll of members' names and addresses covering later periods of the Squadron's history.  Bill Andrews was then drawn into the Committee and by their combined efforts, a very successful re-union was held.

At this re-union, held on l5 July 1946, 92 members swapped yarns and re-lived old times and it could truly be said that the 3 Squadron Association was formed at that time.

They have been regularly meeting together ever since that day.
