A35179 Warrant Officer Edward “Ted” PLANT.

A well-known member of 3 Squadron Association QLD, Ted passed away in Bundaberg Hospital, with his wife Margaret and daughter Pauline both present, on Sunday 13th Jan 2019, at 10.15am.  (Aged 83 Years.)  During the last eight years of his life Ted was wheelchair-bound and on dialysis three times a week.

Ted was born at Sarina, North Queensland, and joined the RAAF, aged 15, as a No.5 Course Radio Apprentice in 1951 at RAAF Telecom Unit Frognall, east of Melbourne.

In 1954, upon completion of his training, he was posted to RAAF Williamtown as a Radio Technician Airborne (or Rad Tech “A”).  His next posting was to ARDU at RAAF Laverton, where he met Margaret and married in 1956.

Most of Ted’s postings were on jet fighter aircraft, with two postings to Malaya/Malaysia, one in the early 1960s on Sabre jets - 2½ years [including 79 Sqn at Ubon]; and in the late 1960s three years on Mirage aircraft.

Following his next posting, to HQSC in Melbourne, Ted was posted back to RAAF Base Williamtown, where he completed his 26 years of loyal RAAF Service.

Apart from his South East Asia and Long Service medals, he received the Order of Australia Medal for his services to Radar in the RAAF.

Ted was an excellent golfer; Blue FARRELL had many a battle with him in Club events at Butterworth, Far East Armed Forces Championships in Singapore and Inter-Service Selection Trials in Australia.

Blue says: “Ted was the keenest member of Queensland Association, bought every piece of Memorabilia, attended lunches and ANZAC Day marches (whenever his dialysis scheduled allowed).  - A great bloke and he will be sorely missed.  R.I.P. Ted.”
