New individual memorial plaques for 3SQN RAAF's first air crash victims were installed in Queanbeyan and Canberra by the Association in 2022.
We will be holding a Centennial Memorial Event close to the 100th Anniversary of the accident, on Monday 16 February 2026, in conjunction with the 450 Squadron 85th Anniversary, at the RAAF Memorial Grove, Majura A.C.T.
The 3SQN Centennial Plaque in the Grove - installed
2016 - also remembers these men.
Save the Date: Sunday 15 to Tuesday 17 February
2026.
On the morning of Monday 16 February 2026, 450 Squadron
Association will conduct a major commemoration at the RAAF
Memorial Grove, Majura, ACT. It will be the 85th
Anniversary of 450 Squadron’s formation at Williamtown in
1941 and a new bronze plaque will be unveiled. [3SQN and
450 SQN fought side-by-side from 1942 to 1945, in Africa and
Italy.]
3SQN Williamtown serving personnel will be supporting that
ceremony and 3SQN Association has also kindly been
invited to include a segment honouring 100 years exactly
since 3SQN suffered its first personnel fatalities as an
R.A.A.F. Squadron.
Other activities are expected to include group dinners, a tour
of the AWM Archives with the Curators and a chance to
view the moving AWM Last Post Ceremony, or other
Canberra attractions that you may be interested in.
- More details will be announced as arrangements are firmed-up.
Please advise, as soon as possible, if you are

Anzac Day 2010
Anzac Day 2010 went very well in Sydney and the RAAF Official Photographer captured a nice image of 3SQN CO Terry van Haren with the WW2 veterans present on the day. It was especially gratifying that our President Peter Cuthbert (2nd from left) could be there despite his recent illness. [Pete told us that he's recently received a disturbing note in his mailbox saying, "If you don't stop making love to my wife, I will KILL you!" - But the note was unsigned, so Pete has no way of knowing which husband wrote it!]
